About MyEO

The Malaysian Economics Olympiad (MyEO) represents a significant opportunity for Malaysian students to delve into various aspects of economics, including macroeconomics, finance, microeconomics, entrepreneurship and investment.

This competition is designed for secondary school students aged 13 to 19 as of 31 December in the year of the competition, as well as pre-university students. As an evolution of the Economics Explorer Competition, MyEO serves as a platform for young enthusiasts in economics to showcase their understanding and apply their knowledge in a competitive environment.

The International Economics Olympiad (IEO) 2025 was held in Baku, Azerbaijan from 20 July until 29 July 2025 with Malaysia proudly participating once again. This marks Malaysia’s eighth consecutive year competing in this prestigious global event. The IEO features two main components, an individual competition, which includes economics and finance tests, and a group competition, which involves a business case presentation. This year, over 200 participants from 52 countries and territories took part.

Malaysia’s team made the nation proud, with all five students winning medals. In the individual category, they secured three silver medals and two bronze medals:

In addition to these individual achievements, the team also helped Malaysia achieve a top 10 overall ranking, a remarkable accomplishment on the international stage.

The Australasian Economics Olympiad

Malaysia also marked a significant milestone by participating for the second time in the Australasian Economics Olympiad (AAEO), held in Sydney, Australia, from 3 to 6 July 2025. Five students proudly represented the country in this emerging competitive arena. The team comprised Jared Goh Wern Hee (Garden International School), Eleanor Eng Yee Hui (Sunway College), Leong Ka Wai (Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar), Yee Sue Wei, and Gan Lih Ying. Although they did not secure any medals, their effort, determination, and resilience were clearly demonstrated as they competed against some of the brightest young minds from across the Asia-Pacific region.

Their participation and achievement stands as a testament to their hard work, commitment, and the comprehensive training they underwent, firmly establishing Malaysia as a rising contender in the global landscape of economics competitions.

We are also excited to announce that the team achieved 3rd place in the Business Case Challenge, continuing our legacy of excellence following last year’s championship title at IEO 2023! This year, the competition saw participation from 53 teams from around the world, making our achievements even more significant.

The Australasian Economics Olympiad

Malaysia also marked a significant milestone by participating for the first time in the Australasian Economics Olympiad (AAEO), held in Sydney, Australia, from 4 July to 7 July 2024. Five students, selected from the National Selection Camp, represented Malaysia in this new competitive arena. Although they did not secure any medals, their effort and dedication were evident, as they competed against some of the brightest young minds in the Asian region.

The IEO 2023, held from July 24 to August 2, embraced a unique hybrid format. They had a physical presence in Volos, Greece, co-hosted by the University of Thessaly (UTH). The mix of in-person and online elements created a dynamic and engaging experience. 32 teams participated online and 14 full teams attended the IEO 2023 in-person venue in Volos, Greece. 1 team, Ghana, has split and attended both online and in person. In total, 47 teams from 47 countries and territories were represented by 223 contestants.

The event covered three main parts: Economics, Finance (Financial Literacy), and a Business Case (Case Study). The Finance task is an online simulation testing contestants’ skills in making financial decisions and reaching financial and lifetime goals while the Business Case study was prepared by Grant Thornton, Greece, and focused on the concept of a Public Private Partnership between a construction company and the University of Thessaly, Greece. Being the only team part of the IEO, the Business Case study tests contestants’ abilities in analytical, conceptual, and quantitative thinking as well as their communication and teamwork skills.

Hats off to our medal winners! Your achievements speak volumes, making our country proud. The Malaysian team secured 2 silvers and 3 bronzes at the IEO, and to top it off, they clinched 1st place for the Business Case. Congratulations to them!

In 2021, 749 students participated in the Kijang Economics Competition. Out of 749 participants, 68 winners from the Upper and Lower Secondary category were chosen to participate in the Malaysian Economics Olympiad (MyEO) 2022. The five top scorers from MyEO 2022 were selected to represent Malaysia at the 5th International Economics Olympiad (IEO) 2022. The event was held virtually by the hosting country China. It is completely organized by SKT Education Group and Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University in China.

The Malaysian team made the country proud by winning 1 gold medal, 3 silver medals and 1 bronze medal. IEO was participated in by 201 contestants from 40 countries and territories.

There are 1,193 students participating in the Kijang Economics Competition 2022. 110 top scorers have been invited to participate in the Malaysian Economics Olympiad (MyEO) 2023. It was a one-day contest that covered all economics and financial aspects.
